Math major career options?
I am going to be a senior at UT with a BS in Math and with a minor and two certificates. I have had a couple internships in finance roles and currently trying to recruit for consulting. But, I don't know if that is what I want to do.
I was hoping that current or graduated math majors here at UT could tell me what they are/or currently doing with their degree.

A math degree is unique in that, as a hard science, it can take you in a lot of great directions, but doesn't have an immediately obvious career path like most other STEM majors seem to have. I pursued math because I was interested in statistics and my goal was a job in market research or data science. Then I took the required introductory programming course (CS 303E), and loved it so much that I decided to do the rest of the CS certificate. Graduated last semester and am working as a software engineer.

Did you have internship experience in CS?

Did you take CS313E , or whatever the part 2 is for CS 303E?

Did you have a strong coding background when you were on campus?

Hey! I just graduated with a BS in math this May and had an internship in finance consulting, but right now, I am working as an ETL developer. I'm sure you know all the options we can do as a math major. What industry are you interested in?

What is an ETL developer. I don't know, I was just trying to see what others do and maybe get inspired hahah

Im a math major too looking for a data science internship. If u dont mind me asking, what qualifications do u have. Im trying to learn SQl and took cs 303E but idk what programs/languages are the best to increase my chances

I'm doing actuarial science :) for this career path it's typically better to have started on exams earlier in undergrad, but i wanna put it out there in case fresh math majors read this thread

math major working towards data science/ machine learning. will eventually transition to a math PhD and go into the financial sector (or at least that's the plan)

Math -> growth equity. Finance is a great space to be in as a math major imo. If you're smart you can end up at some of the top hedge funds / trading shops, in anything from quant to fundamental. Otherwise data science-esque roles or try to break into SWE

Any resources to help expand my knowledge?

As a double computer science and mathematics major also going to be a senior this upcoming academic year, I plan on working in the data science or applied mathematics field (most likely data science because it's more lucrative IMO), so aside from pursuing these majors, I'm also pursuing a scientific computation/data science and (maybe) a computational science and engineering certificate during my remaining time at UT and will be getting my masters first before working after I graduate from UT.
